Multi-Month Narcotics Probe Leads to Arrest of Martin Woman on Methamphetamine Trafficking Charges

A multi-month narcotics investigation in Stephens County has culminated in the arrest of a 51-year-old Martin resident, who now faces severe illicit drug trafficking charges. Authorities announced that the extensive probe resulted in the interception of significant quantities of suspected narcotics packaged for regional distribution, alongside a quantity of illicit cash.

The suspect, identified by law enforcement officials as Tameka Williams, has been formally charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and simple possession of methamphetamine. The charges follow an intensive inquiry into narcotics distribution networks operating across northeastern Georgia.

The coordinated operation formally commenced in June when investigators with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit began tracking suspicious narcotics movements. Investigators focused their attention on identifying the individuals and supply routes responsible for moving dangerous controlled substances through the local area and neighboring jurisdictions.

According to investigative findings, Williams allegedly obtained substantial quantities of methamphetamine during frequent journeys connecting a residence in Martin with various locations throughout the state. Authorities reported that after securing the narcotics from these statewide transit points, she brought the supply back to Martin to coordinate distribution throughout Stephens County and adjacent communities.

The prolonged surveillance operation reached a decisive turning point on the afternoon of Sept. 7. At approximately 1:00 p.m., deputies assigned to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit observed Williams departing from her residential property in Martin in a vehicle.

Following her departure, patrol deputies witnessed the gray pickup truck Williams was operating commit a traffic violation. In response, officers initiated a traffic stop on the pickup along North Red Hollow Road to conduct an enforcement check and address the observed infraction.

Upon making contact with the driver, deputies instructed Williams to step out of the gray pickup truck. As she complied with the directive, observing law enforcement officers noticed her actively attempting to conceal a plastic bag containing a white, crystal-like substance.

During the roadside interaction, deputies also detected the distinct smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and the driver. When questioned by officers at the scene, Williams acknowledged that she had recently smoked marijuana and admitted that she was currently operating the vehicle under the influence.

As the physical roadside investigation progressed, deputies confirmed that the initially observed bag contained suspected methamphetamine. Williams subsequently retrieved and surrendered an additional five plastic bags of suspected methamphetamine that had been concealed directly on her person, bringing the total number of recovered packages to six.

Narcotics investigators and deputies at the scene subjected the collected crystal substance to field testing. The preliminary chemical testing yielded a definitive positive reaction for methamphetamine, an illicit substance classified legally under state and federal law as a Schedule II controlled substance.

A detailed examination of the seized contraband revealed that each of the six individual plastic bags weighed approximately 28 grams, representing one ounce apiece. The packaging and precise measurements indicated that the total haul of approximately six ounces of methamphetamine had been divided evenly for commercial illicit sale.

In addition to removing the six ounces of suspected narcotics from the supply chain, deputies conducted a thorough search of the gray pickup truck. During the vehicle inventory, investigators located and seized $1,522 in U.S. currency, which was secured as evidentiary proceeds connected to the suspected drug trafficking enterprise.

Stephens County Sheriff Rusty Fulbright publicly praised the synchronized efforts of the multiple specialized law enforcement divisions that collaborated over several months to bring the complex investigation to a successful close.

Sheriff Fulbright specifically highlighted the coordinated partnership between local deputies and regional enforcement bodies, noting the essential contributions made by the Crime Suppression Unit and agents from the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office throughout the duration of the case.

Emphasizing the agency's overarching goal to curtail illicit drug distribution, Sheriff Fulbright affirmed the department's ongoing commitment to disrupting local drug trades, declaring that the multi-agency diligence in removing another alleged dealer from the streets directly advances the mission of building a safer and stronger Stephens County.

Following the on-scene seizure and field testing, Williams was taken into custody without incident and transported directly to the Stephens County Detention Center. She remains incarcerated at the county jail facility as she awaits a formal bond hearing before a Stephens County magistrate court judge.
