Cedarville University Set to Honor Class of 2030 at Annual Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony

Cedarville University is preparing to celebrate its incoming class of pharmacy students this weekend, marking an important initial milestone as the new cohort embarks on its professional medical training. The university's School of Pharmacy will honor the first-year Doctor of Pharmacy students who comprise the graduating class of 2030 during a dedicated White Coat Ceremony.

The academic ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, beginning at 10 a.m. The event will be hosted inside the Jeremiah Chapel, located within the campus's Dixon Ministry Center, where university leadership, faculty, students, and invited guests will gather to commemorate the occasion.

Across healthcare education programs nationwide, the white coat ceremony stands as a revered tradition that signifies a student's formal entrance into their discipline. For the incoming doctoral students at Cedarville, the ceremony formally introduces them to the rigors and expectations of professional pharmacy education while setting the stage for their future clinical responsibilities.

The gathering serves as an early public affirmation of the students' dedication to patient care and high standards of ethical practice. As the role of the modern pharmacist continues to evolve within the broader healthcare system, the ceremony underscores the fundamental principles of service, patient advocacy, and professional integrity that will guide their studies.

During the morning program, each first-year student will be presented with their personal white coat alongside a stethoscope. These items serve as functional clinical tools and lasting symbols of the healthcare responsibilities the students are preparing to assume throughout their training and future careers.

Dr. Jeffery Bates, who serves as dean and professor of pharmacy practice at the Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, will address the assembled audience during the event. His remarks will highlight the responsibilities and privileges inherent to the pharmaceutical profession.

Emphasizing the weight of the milestone, Dr. Bates explained that the event formally welcomes the new students into the pharmacy profession and provides them with white coats that signify their transition into becoming healthcare providers. His address will encourage the class of 2030 to embrace the values and discipline required for their future roles.

The white coat investiture serves as a bridge between foundational academic coursework and the clinical realities of patient interaction. By putting on their coats, the incoming class demonstrates a shared readiness to embrace the moral duties and clinical standards demanded by the healthcare community.

In keeping with tradition, the event will also feature guidance from a past graduate of the program. Dr. Vineeta Rao, who earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Cedarville University in 2019, will return to her alma mater to serve as the ceremony's keynote speaker.

Following her graduation from the doctoral program, Dr. Rao established her professional pharmacy practice in North Carolina, where her clinical work focuses directly on patient care. Her keynote address will offer the incoming students practical perspectives on applying their Cedarville education to daily clinical environments.

The ceremony will be witnessed by numerous family members, friends, and supporters who will travel to the campus to support the new doctoral candidates. The presence of loved ones reflects the strong personal support systems required to navigate the intensive multi-year pharmacy curriculum.

Immediately following the conclusion of the formal program in Jeremiah Chapel, the university will host a reception for all attendees. The reception will provide an opportunity for students, their families, faculty members, and university administrators to celebrate the milestone together.

The White Coat Ceremony is receiving broad support from both industry partners and the university community. Retail pharmacy chain Walgreens is serving as the corporate sponsor for this year’s ceremony, illustrating ongoing collaboration between academic institutions and retail healthcare organizations.

In addition to the corporate sponsorship, Cedarville pharmacy alumni have contributed funds to help supply the white coats and stethoscopes presented to each incoming student. This financial support reflects a commitment by established practitioners to invest in the education of future colleagues.

The involvement of alumni highlights the continuity and mentorship within the Cedarville pharmacy community, giving the newest students a tangible link to those who previously completed the same academic and clinical journey.

As the first-year Doctor of Pharmacy students step forward this Saturday to receive their coats and stethoscopes, they will begin a path of professional development that will culminate in their graduation in 2030, equipped to serve patients and the wider healthcare field.
