California Revokes Parole Grant for Infamous Guy Fieri Lamborghini Thief Max Wade

Max Wade, the high-profile Marin County offender whose teenage crime spree captivated the Bay Area and made national headlines, has had his parole grant officially rescinded. The administrative reversal strips the onetime adolescent celebrity of an earlier pathway toward freedom and places his long-term fate squarely back into the hands of state corrections authorities.

The decision to nullify Wade's parole eligibility followed a dedicated rescission proceeding convened earlier this month. State authorities initiated the review after prosecutors vigorously challenged the initial determination, seeking to demonstrate that the inmate should not be released on the grounds of administrative errors or subsequent misconduct behind bars.

According to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office, the critical factor in taking away the parole grant was Wade’s possession of an illicit cellular device while incarcerated. Cellphones are strictly classified as contraband within correctional institutions, and the infraction proved significant enough to overturn his previously approved trajectory toward conditional release.

Wade, who has reached the age of 32, remains confined within the walls of San Quentin State Prison. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records indicate that in light of the rescinded decision, his next formal parole suitability hearing has been scheduled for January 5, 2027.

The reversal brings an abrupt halt to the timeline established in July 2024, when a state panel had initially ruled that Wade could seek parole release as early as December 2028. That preliminary grant was met with vehement resistance from local prosecutors, who consistently argued that Wade continues to represent a severe risk to public safety.

Wade originally achieved notoriety more than a decade ago as a high school student in San Rafael, where he operated an underground enterprise well beyond his years. Beginning at age 14, he manufactured and distributed counterfeit identification cards, an illicit venture that he later claimed generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in illicit profits.

However, the revenue from forged documents did not satisfy the teenager’s ambition. In March 2011, Wade orchestrated a daring heist at the British Motors dealership in San Francisco, scaling the building and rappelling through the rooftop into the high-end vehicle showroom below.

During the break-in, Wade drove off in a vibrant, banana-yellow Lamborghini supercar. It was only after the theft attracted widespread media coverage that the vehicle's high-profile ownership came to light: the luxury sports car belonged to television personality and celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

Investigators later uncovered that Wade's grand theft was merely the preliminary phase of an elaborate scheme to court a teenage girl from Marin County. Despite his possession of the exotic vehicle, the young woman repeatedly rebuffed his romantic overtures.

The rejection soon took a violent turn when Wade shifted his focus to the young man dating his crush. Cloaked in black attire and operating a motorcycle, Wade positioned himself in Mill Valley to intercept the boyfriend's pickup truck. When the vehicle appeared, Wade unleashed a barrage of gunfire at it, seemingly unaware that the young woman he sought to impress was also seated inside the cab.

Miraculously, neither passenger sustained physical injuries during the drive-by shooting. When local detectives began investigating the ambush, they located clear service station surveillance video capturing the motorcyclist, zeroing in on the distinct make and design of the shooter's helmet.

That visual clue led law enforcement to a Cycle Gear retail location in San Francisco, where store cameras had documented a teenage customer purchasing that exact helmet alongside matching black gloves and a face covering. When detectives presented the store footage to the young woman, she promptly identified the shopper as Wade, whom she knew from his persistent attempts to gain her affection.

Police then devised a sting operation by having the female teen agree to a rendezvous with Wade in the stolen Lamborghini. As Wade arrived and made preparations for the meeting, waiting officers ambushed the teenager and took him into custody without incident.

Wade’s dramatic saga continued even after his capture while he was being held at the Marin County Juvenile Hall. On the day he marked his 18th birthday, at least two outside accomplices arrived with bolt cutters, breached the security perimeter fencing, and repeatedly struck the reinforced window of his detention cell with a sledgehammer in an audacious escape attempt.

The brazen breach startled facility staff, prompting Michael Daly, the county’s chief probation officer at the time, to reflect on the unprecedented nature of the assault. Daly noted that in his 23 years of service he had never encountered such an attack, emphasizing that unarmed personnel experienced genuine terror during the tense minutes before sheriff's deputies arrived.

The would-be liberators fled the grounds before law enforcement units converged on the facility, prompting officials to promptly transfer Wade to an adult detention center. When he reached age 19, Wade stood trial and was convicted of attempted murder, auto theft, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, drawing a sentence of life imprisonment.

During the formal sentencing hearing, the presiding judge reflected on the extraordinary luck that the two targeted teenagers had survived, expressing astonishment that no lives were lost. The judge underscored the calculated nature of Wade's actions, noting that the young defendant had spent months meticulously planning the armed ambush. Following the revocation of his parole grant, Wade will spend the coming years at San Quentin before getting another opportunity to plead his case for freedom.
